Name of the Patient : Abc Xyz Chalmn / F / 50 yrs.
Referred by : Dr. Abc XyzR> Examination : M.R.I. of the Dorsal Spine.

CLINICAL PROFILE :

C/O backache since 2 years.
H/O swelling over the back since birth.

EXAMINATION :

M.R.I of the dorsal spine was performed using the following parameters :

5 mm thick T1 Weighted and T2 Weighted sagittal images.

5 mm thick T1 Weighted and T2 Weighted axial images.

OBSERVATION :

There appears to be fusion of the D12, L1 and L2 vertebral bodies with obliteration of the intervening disc spaces and an angular kyphus at that level.

The spinal cord appears to be stretched over these levels and the conus medullaris terminates at the L2 level.

The spinal cord at the D11-D12 and at the L1 level shows a subtle hyperintense signal on the T2 Weighted images which is isointense to normal cord on the T1 Weighted images and is suggestive of cord edema/ischemia.










The visualized lower dorsal vertebral bodies show diffuse fatty marrow changes. The intervertebral discs reveal loss of water content. The facet joints and the visualized pre and paravertebral soft tissues are unremarkable.

IMPRESSION :

The MRI features are suggestive of fusion of the D12, L1 and L2 vertebral bodies with obliteration of the intervening disc spaces and an angular kyphus at that level and stretching of the cord at these levels. These changes may be due to past healed infection. Cord signal alteration at the D11-D12 and L1 levels may suggest cord edema/ischemia.
