Name of the Patient : Abc XyzVilmn / M / 56 yrs.
Examination : M.R.I. of the Right Knee Joint.

CLINICAL PROFILE :

H/O fall 2 days back with pain in the right knee joint since then.

EXAMINATION :

M.R.I of the right knee joint was performed using the following parameters :

4 mm thick T1 Weighted, proton and GRASS sagittal images.

4 mm thick T1 Weighted and T2 Weighted coronal images.

5 mm thick T1 Weighted and T2 Weighted (with fat saturation) axial images.

OBSERVATION :

Menisci :

The anterior and posterior horns of the lateral and medial menisci reveal normal configuration and signal characteristics.

Cruciate Ligaments :

The posterior cruciate ligament appears buckled. There is no break, or change in signal intensity.

The anterior cruciate ligament shows normal contour and signal characteristics.

Collateral Ligaments and the Patellar Tendon :

There appears to be increased signal intensity on the T2 Weighted and STIR images of the posterior fibres of the lateral collateral ligament with slight buckling suggestive of a strain.

The medial collateral ligament and the patellar tendon are normal.

Hoffas Fat Pad :

The Hoffas fat pad is normal.

Articular cartilage and bones :

The articular cartilage overlying the patella, tibia and femur appears normal.

There is a fracture of the head of the fibula (styloid process).

Hyperintense signal is noted on the proton, T2 Weighted and Gradient images in the subcutaneous region in the lateral aspect of the right knee joint which would represent edema, in the given clinical setting.

Minimal effusion is seen within the right knee joint.

IMPRESSION :

The MRI features are suggestive of :

1. Strain of the posterior fibres of the lateral collateral ligament.

2. A fracture of the head of the fibula (styloid process).

3. Slight buckling of the posterior cruciate ligament without change in signal intensity.

4. Altered signal in the subcutaneous region in the lateral aspect of the right knee joint would represent edema.

5. Minimal effusion within the right knee joint.
